Play a Round of Golf at a Nearby Course

Did you know that in golf, the term "birdie" was coined in the late 1890s?

While Ab Smith was playing a round, he hit what he called a "bird of a shot," which eventually became "birdie."

If you would like to meet your friends for a fun afternoon of golf, nearby courses include:

With rolling terrain and lush fairways, it's no wonder that Diamond Ridge has been a favorite golf destination for more than forty years. It challenges players of all skill levels, and the front nine offers a links-like feel, while the back nine is surrounded by mature trees.

The course was created by legendary designer Ed Ault, and as golfers make their way throughout, they find several strategically placed fairway and greenside bunkers.

Those who would like to improve their game can take lessons from the course's PGA professionals.

Bulle Rock is the number one golf course in Maryland, and it is the only five-star course in the mid-Atlantic. It was designed by Pete Dye and has welcomed golfers since 1998. It encompasses more than 230 acres and features gently rolling hills, bunkers, and water hazards.

Players who would like to warm-up before their round can do so at the onsite practice facility that includes a driving range, short game area, and a putting green.

The Timbers at Troy is a recently renovated golf destination that Golfstyles Magazine calls one of the "Top 100 Golf Courses in the Mid-Atlantic." It provides scenic views of Maryland's countryside, and it spans more than 6,650 yards from the back tees. The course features bentgrass tees, greens, and fairways, and it challenges all players with sand traps and bunkers.
