Where To Shop & Dine at Savage Mill

Where To Shop & Dine at Savage Mill

What was once a cotton mill is now a vibrant complex of shops and restaurants.

We're talking about Savage Mill, and it dates back to 1820 when four brothers borrowed $20,000 from a friend to establish a textile weaving business.

They named the company after their generous friend, and it operated as a mill from 1822 to 1947.

The mill was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974, and today the buildings feature everything from antique stores to destination restaurants.

Savage Mill is an easy drive from our apartments near John Hopkins, and highlights include:

Murillo's Jewelry

Murillo's is a family-owned jeweler found in the New Weave building. Founder Gustavo Murillo grew up in Bogota, Colombia where he learned to create and repair jewelry by hand. Gustavo moved to the United States in 1979, and is passionate about offering high-quality customized pieces.

Books with a Past

Books with a Past is an independent store featuring new and used books. Erin Matthews is an avid reader who has wanted to own a bookstore since she was fifteen. She took over the business in 2009, and enjoys helping customers find their new favorite authors. The selection features everything from the most popular titles to specialized genres.

Sweet Cascades Chocolatier

What began as a chocolate fountain catering company is now a quaint shop called Sweet Cascades Chocolatier. Owner Sue Whary is self-taught, and she is always searching for new trends and flavors. The treats are handcrafted, and visitors find both unique creations and traditional favorites. Choices include almond butter crunch, blood orange truffles, and mango cremes.

Savage Mill is just one of the shopping and dining destinations near The Academy on Charles. If you're searching for a place to call home, please contact us. We will gladly show you our community firsthand.
