College life can be challenging: from maintaining high grades to pulling all-night study sessions, sometimes a peaceful retreat is needed. Fortunately, there are numerous scenic walking and biking trails within minutes from The Academy on Charles. Better yet, there are free events to explore along the way.

The Druid Hill Park Reservoir has a 1.5-mile walking loop ideal for biking, running, and walking according to the Baltimore City Department of Recreation and Parks. Pick up some fresh produce or baked goods at the Druid Hill Farmers Market, open every Wednesday through October from 3:30 pm to 7:00 pm.

The Jones Falls Trail is 11 miles long and has three parts that meander through urban and forested areas per the Jones Falls Trail website. The first part of the journey starts in the Inner Harbor. While you're on this leg of the trip, check out the Baltimore Farmers Market, open every Sunday from April to December from 7:00 am to 12:00 pm. The second part of the trail showcases historic monuments and runs through forested sections of lush Druid Hill Park. The last part of the trail proceeds through dense woods along the Jones Falls stream and extends to the Cylburn Arboretum. The Arboretum is free and features gardens, trails, and a historic mansion.

Herring Run Park offers 375 acres of woodlands that allow for biking, walking, fishing, and more per the Baltimore City Department of Recreation and Parks. Bring your binoculars to spot wildlife because Great Blue Heron and White Egrets are known to gather around the Herring Run stream. This green space is a perfect place to relax, so pack a lunch and bring a blanket.
